history about the kingdom
the de marvalis family has been ruling over dreimas for seven generations. with the de marvalis in its seventh generation, the kingdom has prospered exponentially. the walls of the city are reinforced with metal and heavy stone, making it difficult for neighboring kingdoms to penetrate its walls. the city receives its water from the local river that flows north of the city. the city is known for its tradesmanship and military prowess. if someone wants a rare item, dreimas is the place for you. if you want to join a guild, dreimas is the place for you. like other large cities, there are poor and rich parts neighborhoods.

besides the royal family, there are seven families that are considered the creme de la creme of the kingdom.

the seven families
the seven families are: aylsworth, crowvale, durham, nethercote, stourton, sullard, and veres.

players are allowed to create their own family histories if you want to choose one of the noble families. but please cap it at seven each, including parents. the player that creates the first member of the family should have an ooc contact for everyone in the family.

titles and adventurer classes
if you want to claim one of these titles, you cannot claim an adventurer class to discourage title/class hoggers. people can however denounce their title so if you want to go that route, you can. if a sibling or parent(s) holds a title, you can still pick an adventure class if you'd like.

here are the hierarchy of titles:
king & queen
prince/princess
duke & duchess
marquess & marchioness
earl & countess
viscount & viscountess
baron & baroness

the classes that are available as adventurers:
barbarian: a fierce warrior of primitive background who enter a battle in rage.
bard: an inspiring magician whose power echoes the music of creation.
cleric: a priestly champion who wields divine magic in service of a higher power.
druid: a priest wielding the powers of nature and adopting animal forms.
fighter: a master of martial combat, skilled with a variety of weapons and armor.
monk: a master of martial arts, harnesses the power of the body in pursuit of physical and spiritual perfection.
paladin: a holy warrior bound to a sacred oath.
ranger: a warrior who combats threats on the edges of civilization.
rogue: a scoundrel who uses stealth and trickery to overcome obstacles and enemies.
sorcerer: a spellcaster who draws on inherent magic from a gift or bloodline.
warlock: a wielder of magic that is derived from a bargain with an extraplanar entity.
wizard: a scholarly magic-user capable of manipulating the structures of reality.

professions
do you want to be a barmaid that was once a mage, go for it! do you want to play a character that used to be an adventurer but got too scared to go on an actual adventure? do it! if you want some inspiration, look here for job titles and inspiration. if you have any questions regarding professions, please drop a note here.

magic and technology
magic does exist but is handled only by people that are trained in the arts of it. most of them require some kind of schooling or by taking an apprenticeship under another magic user. most people cannot tell the difference between "specialities," unless they're the ones studying the art. for example: necromancy and cleric magic would be considered specialities. clarissa ivey, the archmage of dreimas takes ten wizards/sorcerers under her wing every four years and is very hard to be selected to be her disciple. if a wizard/sorcerer decides to study at a school, it takes twelve years before a person can be considered a true mage and wellversed in the craft. magic users use their hands to create their spells and often memorize long scrolls or texts.

under the archmage of dreimas, she created magic scrolls. every citizen owns a scroll, used to contact one another through writing or speaking. the scroll can be rolled into a tube and place in the user's pocket or left at home. when a citizen loses their scroll, it does cost money to replace the scroll. these scrolls will be used for customs or for communication versus ravens, owls, messengers, etc. technology is created every day through alchemy or magic. many scholars are working day and night to create new ways to enhance lives.

citizens of dreimas can use swords, bows, metal armor, horses, carriages, magic portals, etc. if using a magic portal, be cautious. not all mages that create a portal are righteous. the crown is not responsible for portals that are made outside of their control.

religion and military
religion is there for those that believe in a higher power. there are two religions in dreimas: the sect of the moon and the children of the dragonheart. the sect of the moon is made of mostly women, with very few men. many believe that they are the most gentle of the land and are healers by nature. the children of the dragonheart are more aggressive with their "recruitment." they are made of mostly men with very few women. they are also the ones at can often be heard in the town square, shouting about dragon fire killing those that don't praise the almighty dragon and their followers.

the military within dreimas are a force to be reckoned with. they are mostly made of men with a smaller amount of women leading charge. these men and women are the heart of dreimas, in case a neighboring kingdom has the guts to challenge or overthrow the king.

there is also the kingsguard, personally selected men that follow the king wherever he goes. the king believes they are of highest order to protect him, also, they cannot marry or take a lover -- to bar them from their duty: to protect the king. outside of the kingsguard, there are the knights of dreimas. these citizens often volunteer themselves due to the high pay at the king offers them. the king also offers glory beyond their dreams, of course, if the soldiers return from the battlefield alive. knights are allowed to do whatever they please but they are not above the law.

playable races, gender roles, sexuality
want to play a different race other than human? there are three choices: elf, dwarf, and human.

elves
elves are a humanoid race. they often appear slender with long locks of hair. the more prestigious the elf, the more likely they are to grow out their hair. their most distinct feature are their pointed ears. they are naturally taller than humans and live longer. the longest living elf had been 900 years old before they leave the kingdom permanently. they often hail from greenvale, a neighboring forest to the west of dreimas. they are known for their archery, ranger, and magic skills.

dwarf
dwarves are known for their stout size but don't let that fool you. they are very adept with various weaponry and blacksmithing. they are shorter than a normal human. what they lack in height, they make up for it in density. they are known to be very heavy and difficult to pick up -- unless they want to be picked up, of course. their home is in the adeiagle mountains to the north. dwarves are also known for their long life. the men tend to grow beards and sometimes the females do too! they are known for their strength, weaponry, and ability to cancel magic.

humans
humans unfortunately don't have anything special going for them but what humans make up for it is through their fervor, always wanting to better the world around them.

half-elf or half-dwarves are playable as well.

gender roles and sexuality: here gender roles are neutral, unless otherwise stated. women can be in the military, work as a blacksmith, etc. women can attend schools and learn to their heart's content. same sex marriages are not uncommon in dreimas and the king de marvalis often blesses many unions, regardless of gender.

education
men and women that want to be part of the education community, can! here are the schools available:

avelaria: schools for magic users. they accept students at the age of seven to fifteen. it takes twelve years in order to graduate as a full fledged magic user. in the last three years, they can select their speciality: white (healing), necromancy, elemental magic, or divination.

dreimas academy: the school that was established by the king and various scholars. many people come here to study due to the dreimas having the largest library in the entire land here. this school does not require money to attend.
